Everyone Wants to Grow. Nobody Wants to Dig

In an age when everyone is selling enlightenment and manifestation, what does it actually mean to become a modern hero?

Everyone wants to grow. But nobody wants to dig.
That's the truth the manifestation crowd buries. Why? Because it doesn't sell.

Like a tree, you can't grow tall without roots... and roots grow in the dark depths of the soil. Real growth happens in the darkness you've been avoiding.

This brutally honest guide takes you into those depths - where you'll find everything the scripts buried: your authentic self, your true values, and the purpose and meaning that emerge from them.

From humiliating reality TV disasters and prizefighting with the Australian carnival, to UFO encounters in Mexican jungles and energy vortexes in the Arizona desert, I discovered that genuine transformation happens in the places we least want to look. The shadow. The mess. The parts of yourself you've been taught to hide.

This is the toolkit I wish someone had handed me in my twenties - when I was lost, living by everyone else's rules, and didn't even know that the answers were buried in the very darkness I was running from.

In These Two Books, You'll Discover:

Why you have to go down before you can grow up - and practical tools for navigating the depths without losing yourself
How to work WITH your darkness instead of against it - exploring how the parts you hide might become strengths
What's actually down there in your depths - the scripts, conditioning, and programming running your life without your permission
How to befriend your ego instead of battling it - turning your biggest critic into an ally
Why your soul's values are buried beneath ego's scripts - and how to uncover them
The "menu vs. meal" problem - why you keep consuming wisdom without digesting it (and how to finally change that)
A psycho-spiritual framework that bridges ancient wisdom with modern psychology - grounded in lived experience, not theory
The "LeeWay" principle from ancient seafaring - creating space for when life pushes you sideways (because it will when you do this work)
How to find YOUR authentic values buried beneath everyone else's expectations - so you can make decisions from your truth
Practical exercises for going deep - journaling prompts, values assessments, and techniques for facing what you've been avoiding

Who are the Modern Hero Books For?

If this sounds like you—you’re in the right place:

You sense there's something deeper holding you back (but every other book just gives you surface strategies)
You're ready to stop consuming wisdom and start digesting it into real change
You know that real growth means facing parts of yourself you've been avoiding
You're done choosing between deep spiritual work OR practical action
You want a guide who admits they're still in the depths themselves sometimes

You’ll probably see yourself in one of these archetypes:

1. The Meaning Seeker

You've built a life that looks good from the outside, but you're craving something deeper—a connection to purpose that goes beyond achievement. That 3am restlessness might be more than insomnia. Perhaps something in you is searching for more.

2. The Threshold Crosser

Standing at life's crossroads—career change, relationship ending, existential crisis—you can't go back to who you were, and you don't yet know who you're becoming. You might be considering your own descent into your own hero's journey.

3. The Shadow Worker

You're part of the movement normalizing "I'm working on my shit." Therapy isn't weakness—it's strategy. Shadow work isn't "woo-woo"—it's practical. You're rewriting what strength looks like.

4. The Spiritual Professional

You're successful in your career but drawn to integrate spiritual principles with practical life. You're seeking growth that honors both your analytical mind and your expanding awareness.

5. The Deep-Diver

You've explored the popular books and frameworks. They helped, but you sense there might be more. You're curious about going beyond surface insights—into shadows, archetypes, ancient patterns, and the messy truth of real transformation.

6. The Phoenix

You're in the thick of it. The career fell apart, the relationship ended, the identity crumbled. While everyone else is selling you ladders to climb out, you're willing to explore what the darkness might teach you.

This isn't another self-help book promising quick fixes. It's a deep dive into shadow work, ego integration, and the kind of inner archaeology that actually transforms lives.

Look, it took me five years to write these books. Five years, one pandemic, two kids, a marriage, and a spectacular midlife crisis. The books practically wrote themselves from the material. Anyway, my goal is to make it as easy as possible to help you the way I wanted to be helped in my twenties.

Most authors give you a "bonus checklist" they whipped up in an afternoon. I'm including my entire second book FREE because... honestly? A map without tools just tells you how lost you are. Tools without a map means wandering in circles. You need both, so you get both.

📕 Becoming a Modern Hero = The Tools (how to get there)

  • The book I carried inside me for five years before finally having the courage to birth it into the world. Part memoir, part map, part "what the f*ck is happening to us?" guide. We'll walk through the descent into our own depths that nobody talks about, share some genuinely weird stories from my own journey (yes, it might even include aliens), and show you why breakdown often comes before breakthrough.

Fresh off the press and already attracting fellow heroes who have grown out of more surface-level solutions. This is the honest conversation about transformation I wish someone had with me in my twenties - no guru BS. The destination after all the depths and breakdown? A values and purpose driven life that nobody else can define for you.

📕 Book 2: Becoming A Modern Hero - The Practical Handbook (FREE BONUS Print Copy)

The work on our hidden patterns that'll make us squirm. Values and purpose assessments that'll call out our BS. Integration practices I still struggle with. All pointing toward one thing: actually living that values and purpose driven life, not just understanding it.

This 40+ page guide reveals different ways to reclaim your authentic values from digital manipulation, plus technical hacks they probably don't want you to know. Because finding your values is hard enough without algorithms actively working against you.
  • Quick Escape Cheat Sheet (Print & Post Reference)
Your algorithm resistance cheat sheet. Morning defense routines, evening shutdown protocols, quick escapes when spiraling, and Sunday audits. Print it, laminate it, stick it on your fridge or by your desk. For when you need reminders that your values don't trend and what matters doesn't need likes.

All three PDFs work together to protect the one thing the algorithm can't fake: your actual values.

Why I Wrote The Modern Hero Books

I spent years trying to be the tallest, mightiest oak in the forest. Then life's first real storm toppled me over and I fell down with a crash. Turns out, height without depth doesn't work.

Most self-help books are selling us a ladder to success when what might serve us better is a shovel. They promise we can reach the heights without ever touching the depths. For years, I chased these temporary highs, feeding my ego's hunger for quick fixes, completely oblivious that real transformation—at least for me—meant going into those dark depths first.

This is the book I wished someone had handed me in my twenties, when I was lost and could have used an honest map through those depths. Because I didn't know then what I know now: working through those dark depths was clearing space for something real—a chance to discover my actual values, and through living them, find a purpose that was genuinely mine.

So what was it I discovered? Incredibly, 20th-century psychologists and mythologists had uncovered something hidden in plain sight. A universal pattern buried in every story humans have ever told about transformation.

Greek myths. Aboriginal dreamtime. Buddhist teachings. Native American vision quests. Even Star Wars and The Matrix. Thousands of years. Cultures that never communicated. Yet somehow, they were all telling the same story. It's as if humans everywhere were unconsciously living out the same hidden script.

When scholars finally mapped this pattern, they weren't discovering something new. They were revealing the operating system of human transformation that had been there all along. And out of all the self-help formulas the modern world keeps producing, this is the only one that wasn't invented. It was observed.

One pattern, emerging again and again across every culture throughout history. They called it the hero's journey, but it's really the human journey. The one we're all on whether we know it or not. What this ancient pattern reveals that our success-obsessed culture conveniently misses is this:

The hero must always descend into the depths before emerging transformed.

But this "shadow" work isn't a detour from transformation. For many of us, it IS transformation.

So why did I decide to write these books now?

Our parents' generation could conquer the external world all day long but wouldn't dare look at their own depths. Fortunately, that's changing. Our generation and younger are rewriting the rules. Therapy isn't weakness, it's strategy. Shadow work isn't "woo-woo," it's practical. We're the first to normalize saying "I'm working on my shit" out loud.

We're starting to understand what ancient cultures always knew: real growth involves looking at what lies beneath. And this feels more relevant than ever. Because just as we're learning to do this inner work, the outer world is making it exponentially harder.

We're living through unprecedented uncertainty and distractions. Technological disruption, AI replacing human connection and economic instability. We're drowning in information, algorithms, political opinions, and influencers selling breakthrough formulas, while authenticity itself is becoming endangered.

This ancient pattern is still there though, waiting. We've just buried it under optimization hacks and productivity porn. But digging deep might help us remain sturdy and strong in these headwinds.

That's why I called the first book in the Modern Hero series LeeWay. Like ancient sailors who needed extra space to navigate when winds pushed them sideways, the same might help our internal journey:

1️⃣ Shelter: Safe spaces to fall apart and rebuild. Therapy, real community, or wherever we can be honest about the struggle.

2️⃣ Space: Room to release old patterns without immediately needing new ones to grab onto.

3️⃣ Support: Fellow travelers who get that growth isn't a solo mission and can be easier with others.

I'm trying to show up here as a guide not a guru (though sure, I still occasionally catch myself falling into that ego trap). But maybe that's exactly what works: honest companions who admit they're figuring it out too, who know the mess and the depths are part of it, that growth isn't clean or guaranteed, but it's real.

The reward isn't perfection. Not "fixed," but integrated. Whole. Like we're actually living our lives instead of performing them.

If mapping my own stumbling helps even one person feel less lost, then every vulnerable moment shared in these books was worth it. Because when you clear away what isn't yours and create space to start living from your real values, purpose isn't something you have to search for—it finds you.

We don't have to do this alone.

9 Things We'll Face Together

1. How to discover and live a values and purpose driven life that's genuinely yours

2. Why every culture's folklore contains the same roadmap for transformation

3. Why success can feel empty (that nagging "is this it?" feeling)

4. How the unconscious parts of yourself might be influencing your life

5. The difference between our ego's agenda and your soul's purpose

6. How Eastern wisdom and Western psychology are describing the same developmental map

7. Why your ancestors' trauma might be living in your body

8. Why breakdown often precedes breakthrough

9. What synchronicities, recurring dreams, and 'weird' experiences might mean

Who are the Modern Hero Books NOT For?

This journey might take you apart before it puts you back together. It often helps to have willingness to change, space to process, and some form of support. If you're in survival mode, holding everything together for others, or can't afford to question your foundations yet—trust your instincts about timing. This book will be here whenever you choose to engage with it. Fair warning: once you start seeing these patterns, you can't unsee them.

✗ Those Holding the World Up

Single parent, sole caregiver, or the only thing keeping your world together—this work requires space and energy you might not have right now. Consider whether you have the bandwidth. The book will still be here when you do.

✗ Quick-Fix Seekers

If you want five steps to success, morning routine hacks, or someone to just tell you what to do—this isn't it. Real change doesn't follow corporate timelines, fit in productivity apps, or come with a simple formula to follow.

✗ Guru Seekers

If you're looking for someone who claims to be 'healed' or 'enlightened,' someone with all the answers—I'm not that person. Still in my own process, still stumbling, still learning. I offer a map I've found helpful, not answers.

✗ Ladder Climbers

If you believe success means always going up, always being positive, always avoiding difficult emotions—this book will frustrate you. I'm offering a shovel, not a ladder. This work involves descending into shadow.

✗ Core Values Prescribers

If you're looking for someone to tell you what your values should be or hand you a pre-packaged purpose—that's not how this works. This is about discovering what's authentically yours, not adopting mine.

✗ The Spiritually Bypassing

If you prefer to focus on love and light, manifesting without inner work, or believe good vibes alone create change—this book takes a different approach. It goes into the shadow rather than transcending it.

Inside: Five Parts, Two Books, One Modern Hero's Journey

From departure to return, each chapter guides you through the stages of transformation—with personal stories, psychological frameworks, and practical wisdom for navigating your own heroic journey.

LeeWay walks you through the territory with brutal honesty and weird stories. Becoming a Modern Hero (your free 250+ page companion book) hands you the practical tools. Together, they're the complete map I wish someone had given me.

Part 1: Growth & Evolution(LeeWay)

icon
  • That restlessness we keep feeling? What if it's not something broken in us, but the same evolutionary force that built galaxies, inviting us to consider what might be next?
  • Why there's a pattern hidden in every story humans have ever told about change, and what happens when we start to recognize the script we might have been unconsciously following.

Part 2: Consciousness & Experience (LeeWay)

icon
  • The stuff that doesn't fit in normal self-help books. What happens when experiences challenge our assumptions about how reality works.
  • Why our ancestors might have known things about consciousness we're only just rediscovering—or still debating whether to take seriously.

Part 3: Understanding the Framework (Becoming a Modern Hero)

icon
  • How different psychological and mythological models all describe the same developmental journey in different languages.
  • The ego-soul dynamic, stages of human emergence, and holistic perspectives that might help you explore where you are in your own development.

Part 4: Preparing for the Journey (Becoming a Modern Hero)

icon
  • Why breakdown often precedes breakthrough, and what it might feel like if your old identity starts shifting.
  • Finding support—therapists, mentors, communities—because most of us find this work easier with others, despite what the "lone hero" myth suggests.

Part 5: Find Purpose & Meaning (Becoming a Modern Hero)

icon
  • All the practical tools for moving from theory to living. Frameworks for uncovering your authentic values, making aligned decisions, and working through what gets in the way.
  • Where the journey leads: Once you're living from your real values, purpose isn't something you have to search for—it emerges naturally. Exercises and practices for building something real—not perfect, just authentically yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dig Deep. Grow Tall. Always Question.
What is The Modern Hero Collection about?

The Modern Hero Collection explores how going into your inner darkness - the parts you've been avoiding - creates authentic transformation. It bridges psychology and ancient wisdom into practical steps for finding your real values and building a life from them, not from scripts others gave you.

Who are the books for?

This books are for anyone who's consumed tons of self-help content but still feels stuck, wants to understand why surface-level positivity isn't working, or is ready to do the actual inner work with structure and honesty (plus British humour).

Is this book based on science or spirituality?

The Modern Hero Collection draws from both - it's psycho-spiritual. You get practical psychology, ancient wisdom, and classic mythology, all filtered through lived experience and healthy skepticism.

How is this different from other self-help books?

Unlike books that promise transformation through positive thinking or manifestation techniques, this collection shows what they're missing: you have to go into the depths first. It includes the author's spectacular failures, admits he still struggles, and gives you both the map (Book One) and the actual tools (Book Two) for real change.

Can I apply these teachings if I'm new to inner work?

Absolutely. The books build from the ground up, explaining concepts like shadow work without requiring prior knowledge. If you can handle honesty and some witty British humor, you're ready.

Why do you include content about algorithms and social media in a book about transformation?

Because you can't find your authentic values when algorithms are actively manipulating them. Every time you open Instagram, TikTok, or ask ChatGPT for advice, you're being shaped by systems designed to manufacture desires and optimize behavior. How can you discover what YOU actually value when Silicon Valley is telling you what to want 247 times a day? The shadow work is hard enough without algorithms working against you. That's why the toolkit includes practical resistance strategies—because finding your real values requires protecting them from digital manipulation. Your transformation can't happen if the algorithm is driving.

When will I see results?

Great question. And anyone who gives you a timeline is being dishonest. The truth is this kind of work never really stops. It's about going into your depths and integrating parts of youself you don't yet know, not checking boxes. Some insights hit immediately, some take years to digest. There's no such thing as a quick fix. That's the point.

What if I'm not satisfied with the books?

We offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. If the books don't resonate, reach out for a full refund.
